More specifically I am going to Heimtextil. What is a Heimtextil you ask? Well, just the world's top textile trade show. The very latest in fabrics by the yard, bed linens, throws, pillows, kitchen and bath textiles will be on display from all over the globe. This fabric hound can barely sleep she's so looking forward to ogling and pawing the yard goods. (By the way, if you are a trade pro and you'd like me to prepare a report on the show for your biz, I'd be pleased to do so -- find more details at the end of this post.)
As I began to think about this upcoming opportunity and writing about it, I was overcome by one of those memories that hits me sometimes. I immediately thought of my Mom. She taught me to sew and all about fabrics (vocabulary, performance, how to test for body, how to recognize natural fibres by touch, what to avoid!). Browsing the bolts and pattern books at Uptown Silk Shoppe in Peterborough was one of my favourite things we did together. Ah, bless. If you had told me then that I would get to go to the biggest fabric mecca in the world in Germany -- wow, not sure I would have believed I could be so fortunate!
But I am. My flight leaves on Sunday. As you can see from the photo above, the Frankfurt skyline if fantastic. It's a dramatic blend of old and modern buildings -- best. I had a chance to visit last February when I attended another home goods trade show, Ambiente. Great show and great city. I hope to get more time this time to wander streets and Instagram random beauty, as is my won't. As for the show itself, I hopped onto the Heimtextil web site to try to get some kind of glimpse of what's to come and I grabbed a few shots to share.
