Friends look at these lovely plates with a matte finish and wonderful uneven handmade looking edges. I’m letting you in on a secret: they are melamine. Hallelujah say I, a prop stylist who will not have to worry about breakage while packing and unpacking for shoots, and who will toss them into prop bags with abandon and who will lug 6 or 8 or a stack of them with so much more ease than their hefty stoneware brethren. Thanks to my friends at @crateandbarrelcanada for inventing these.

It was a full day in studio for Mr. and Mrs. today. While I clicked away at the computer doing client work, Mr. made magical vignettes here, there and everywhere. He’ll be in studio this Wed. 11 to 4:30pm.

Graphic Tape Door DIY

February 21, 2016 in interior design, styling

I've been meaning to do a little something to the inside of the entry door at #AustinSuite for some time. I hemmed and hawed over colour after colour. Decided on yellow. Then didn't do anything. Until today. Tape!

Here's the inspo above (clockwise from top left): 1. The genius Memphis-influenced furniture designs of Kelly Behun. 2. This amazing installation by artist Esther Stocker. 3. This Christian May x Black Crow Studios collab wallpaper. 4. This Minted artwork by Jaime Derringer.

Here's the before. Clean slate.

Here's the best part. The How-to instructions, which are as follows:

1. Apply tape to door in desired pattern until complete.

...and done.

For my next tape DIY I am taking inspiration from this incredible artwork in the NYC home of design power couple Delphine and Reed Krakoff. Good luck me.
